This page is about the sad statistics pertaining to domestic violence, the violence against the animals and the control it has on women and children, and some taughts for us to better understand this dynamic.
Introduction
The violence made to the children, family violence, violence with the animals… A sad vicious circle… Although the Canadian charter of the rights and freedoms recognizes, to article 7, and to all the privilege right to the life, the freedom and the safety of its person grants, many victims of physical and/or psychological abuse, and mainly of the women, will give up this right not to give up behind them their children or the animals familiar of those. Domestic violence wounds the body, mutilates the heart and kills the hope for the families and their pet which they affectionnent like one as of theirs. Several resources already exist for the victims themselves. Here thus that AnimEscale joint with the speakers who support the families of transition, while taking charges the pet with it time with their re-establishment. Non-profit making organization, we will support these families from our reassuring and benevolent, discrete presence and yet how much necessary. Our role, vis-a-vis family violence is paramount because it should not be considered a right which grants all the capacities on him, the fact to be " owner" of a pet… It should be a revocable privilege that of being able to be about it the guard… and any unworthy person should be deprived of this privilege.
Some figures
When 68% of the women have an income lower than 20 000 $ and 19% superior with 30 000 $, it is easy to speak about the great poverty about the lodged women and their children (and not of the women victims of violence marital in general). On the other hand, it is notable that the poverty of the lodged women n' is not necessarily in freefall. Indeed, if l' one refers to the figures of 1988-89, one notes that there was only 1% women having an income of more than 50.000$ contrary to 6% in 2005-2006. One notes also qu' there was 75% of the women who had a family income in lower part of 20.000$, contrary to 63% in 2000-2001 and 68% in 2005-2006. However, this 20.000$ and less n' is not indexed and represents thus aujourd' today a smaller sum in bond with the cost of living which increased. Moreover, this income is family and necessarily it will change after the stay of the women into house, like what to withdraw violence n' is of nothing a profitable step financially.
• A survey, carried out in 1998 by Ontario SPCA, revealed that 48% of the women, leaving a relation of violence, indicate that the concern as for the safety of their pets had prevented them from leaving earlier.
• 82% of the families surveyed for a case of negligence or violence towards the animals were families known near the organizations of local social services like having “children at the risk”.
• 71% of the women seeking refuge to avoid family violence announced that their partner had threatened to make evil, had made evil or had killed at least one their pets…
In short, the statistical list is sadly quite long and the reader who would wish to know some more about these data will be able to undoubtedly find other informations on the Internet, in the reports/ratios of the federations, centers and other organizations of family assistance to the catches with family violence. Let us not forget especially here the elderly, who undergo sometimes threats towards their small companion, maltreatment or separation for example, if these people do not behave as not wished by helping natural… AnimEscale gathers undoubtedly people deeply sensitive to the wellbeing of the children, women, the elder ones, in short of any life whatever its race, its species, its age, its condition, its convictions, and that the victims d' abuses can s' to express or not. We also in common have a sincere concern of the quality of life of the animals which belong to these families. Us n' planes neither capacities nor necessary competences to represent d' other groups of deceived victims and several organizations discharge this spot with professionalism, integrity and celerity. Furthermore, we believe that our mission will be able to promote the respect of all those and those which appear in the company, like beings weaker or ready to ensure their defense.
Our studies, and well of others still which preceded them and those still which will follow, showed, out of any doubt, qu' there is a close link between the violence made with the animals and the violence made to the women and to the children. We colligé many statistics like reports/ratios of studies, and let us present them to you in the pages which follow. Our way of opposing to us to such wretched gestures with conviction is to counter all these brutal and sadistic acts and thus to start where AnimEscale can be able to be essential: while protecting the animals from the families in re-establishment, enters yesterday and tomorrow. Because it is today that they choose to act and that it is qu today AnimEscale must be able to support them. The convincing analyses of recent studies as regards consulted marital violence and some statistics show, without the slightest doubt, than the role of AnimEscale in is one of foreground, giving a support which up to now was sadly lacking. It is proven that the Québécois company affirmed not to tolerate family violence more and the speakers with vocation of family assistance in difficulty know that it is paramount to give an effective and diligent support for the people in prey to violence. There was a gap as for the needs for support of these families; henceforth, knowing that they can count on us, they will be able without any doubt to leave the violent medium more quickly to find refuge for themselves and all the family members concerned, including their small companion.
Studies
The imposters use invaluable objects or pets since they have an emotional value for the victim and will be broken, destroyed, removed, neglected, wounded to control and injure the victim by interposed object… The abuse the animals is either physical (to strike feet or fists, burns, the throw, to put it at the microwaves, the walnut tree, to choke it, it poison, etc), or sexual (to use the animal for gratifier sexually), or the negligence (defect to provide the care necessary such water, food, etc) with an aim of causing a suffering. The myth wanting that the women like that, if not they would leave… is one of absurdest and forgeries which are. No woman, no child likes to be misused, maltreated. No animal either… Too much sadly, if these women agree to continue to undergo, it is for several reasons: the children need a father, the threats of violence and of death if they leave, the threats of reprisals on the familiar animal that the children and their mother like, threats of removal of a family member, etc All these threats must be taken with the serious one. According to the National centre of information on marital violence, 60% of the homicides made in Canada on women are perpetrated by close friends of the victims. The danger is the extreme when a woman decides to leave the hearth, or formless spouse whom the relation is finished. The fear is the imperative reason for which the women remain or return to live near a violent spouse at their place and/or towards the children and the animals. They have all the reasons to believe that the imposter will put at execution the uttered threats. When they are resigned to leave the hearth, the women often leave the pet behind them since seldom they a relative or friend with whom to entrust it; in any event, they could fear for the safety of these third people if the left spouse recalled these people in order to recover the animal. Only the other alternative was, up to now, the conventional refuges such SPA where the animal would be constrained to have only one cage or enclosure reduced for several weeks, even of the month
After having left the marital home, several women realize that they have few financial means and they are believed condemned to a life of poverty and misery. It will be necessary time so that these women find the solutions adapted to their situation and the speakers of the transition and lodging houses will help there. AnimEscale, as for it, will relieve the families of the emotional burden of the abandonment and the financial burden of concern vis-a-vis the expenses which would be necessary for the lodging of the pet for the aforementioned transitional period. They will feel a reassuring relief thus when they realize that themselves are in safety, just like their children and animals, that this life in dignity and the respect which they assert them is due, which they have there right and that AnimEscale is present to bring its support. Such as the Minister responsible for the female condition for the Island of Prince Edouard declared it recently, Honourable Gail Shea: “Family violence is a reality for several families, communities and work environment. It will have taken three decades of public education, the law on family violence and the courage of many surviving making disappear the myth that what occurs inside the hearth does not look at anybody. Family violence is an abuse of power inside the relations family, confidence or the dependence. This abuse takes several forms, in particular psychological violence, emotive violence, physical violence, sexual violence, the financial exploitation, the negligence, the abandonment, the attacks with the small animals, the destruction of the goods and the homicide. ” Researchers recognized and documented that violence towards the animals is at the same time a component and a symptom of abuses undergone in childhood. For example, in a study made in 1983, 60% of the 53 families in which it was proven abuse and negligence towards the children, the animals were also deceived.
In another Canadian study, 56% of the women who had an animal and who sought refuge reported that their imposter had threatened to wound or kill their animal, and had carried out the threat. This study and well of others still in the field of domestic violence, shows with consistency which the time that put the women victims of abuse to leave the violent spouse, often make it by fear for the safety of the animals of the family . Violence towards the animal of the family is one in the most common ways for the imposters to exert their control, to be able and domination on their victims, women, children, elderly, etc Menacer or to wound/force the animal is used as warning… “the next time, it could be you…” The fear for the animal too frequently retains the families with the catches with these violent acts to expose, denounce and flee their imposter. Such as Psychologists for the Ethical Treatment Animals brings it back off, the animals are victims of acts of violence, of reprisals or object of intimidation in 88% of the families in which the children are victims themselves of abuse, violence, negligence. Another study carried out in 1985 near criminals imprisoned for marital violence, showed that in 25% of the cases of aggressive criminals physically those also forced of the animals while only 6% of those nonaggressive physically at the place of the other family members had made these acts. The recognition of the bond between cruelty towards the animals and violence in general is now built-in the procedures of the FBI… In 1995, in the report/ratio of Fourth International conference one Family Violence held in Durham in New Hampshire, it is certified that 71% of the American women who sought refuge affirmed that the spouse imposter threatened, wounded or had killed their animal. And more sadly still, these women, in a proportion of 32% affirmed that one or more their pilot children of this maltreatment has or also made an act of violence towards the animals… The special agent Allan Brantley of the FBI declared recently: “To take with serious cruelty towards the animals opportunity presents of intervening more quickly in the cases of marital violence and with the individuals violent one. We can indisputably affirm that cruelty towards the animals and cruelty towards the human ones are closely dependent. ” An important file, The links between animal deceives and family violence, ace reported by women entering shelters in Calgary communities, of Known C. McIntosh, is particularly eloquent on the subject and we invite to consult it: http://canadianveterinarians.net/pdfs/McIntoshCalgarystudy.pdf. The Canadian Association of the veterinary doctors, in his official statement of September 2006 for its members, included/understood well the stakes and repercussions of domestic violence: Wellbeing of the animals - Recognizing the vital role of the veterinary surgeons for the protection of the animals, the ACMV developed a new section on violence towards the animals on its Web site of the www.veterinairesaucanada.net members. This tool provides information on the ways of recognizing and of announcing the cases of violence, the collection of evidence and testimony of expert as a veterinary surgeon.
It is conceived in order to help the veterinary surgeons to include/understand the “bonds” between violence towards the animals, violence towards the children and domestic violence and to facilitate the role of the veterinary surgeons to build sedentary and humane communities. The ACMV works also actively to make amend the law in order to offer immunity as regards legal proceeding for the veterinary surgeons, as it is the case for the doctors and the other health professionals. In Europe, these facts are also recognized: We could besides note that at the time of violences within the family, in fact often the pets are the first victims… All over the world whole, a movement of knowledge initiated by the psychologists, psychiatrists and other speakers of all the levels, make it possible today to better include/understand the situation, but especially to bring concrete solutions there. And Quebec does not escape from it fortunately. Of course the physical maltreatment is more visible than the psychological wounds. However, insulation, the threats, the deprivation and others are insidious and more subtle abuses. Too much often more difficult to understand, encircle and denounce, these abuses maintains the women and their children in an complete absence of stability and impotence as well physical as psychological. The gravity of these abuses confirms the torture which the victims undergo which seem free from to go away, but which is actually captive by fear of reprisals against them, their children, their animals, their goods. In a document carefully prepared and documented by the UNICEF, we can read that:
Our contribution
AnimEscale supports, during the period of lodging of the pets, the episodical meetings between the animal and the family members of transition so that, as well the woman whom the children, can note as the respect and dignity are necessary to all, including their pet. Moreover, at the time of these meetings, we will be capable to evaluate the behavior of the children towards their animal and to make share of any concern and/or anomaly with the social speakers of the transition and/or lodging house so that the precautionary measures and corrective are brought to support the aggressive children or violent one promptly. We all must intervene, and each one, with the measurement of our expertise and our respective capacities. And the participation of AnimEscale in best and sedentary community will be the most valid remuneration of its implication and its devotion, as well towards the animals as towards the family members who affectionnent it. However, we insist on the fact that we never intervene in the personal step of the woman in period of resumption of control or in that which will imply his/her children. Our role is one of support towards the animals which they cherish and not intervention towards the people, on this level of the problems of marital violence and/or family. At most, we will inform the speaker assigned with the accompaniment, of observations and not of impressions as for the behavior of the family members towards the domestic pet.

How many cats and dogs in Quebec???
February 22, 2008 - According to a survey carried out last January by the firm Leger Marketing on behalf of the Academy of veterinary medicine of Québec in partnership with CDMV and Hill' S Fart nutrition, the number of pets in Quebec and in particular the cats, appreciably increased during the last years. In spite of this rise of popularity, there is a reverse with the medal since on 750.000 occasions, in 2007, the Inhabitants of Quebec were nevertheless separated voluntarily or not of their cats and their dogs. In fact, that it is for health issues, of ageing, bad behavior, of regulatory constraint, allergy, lack of space or money, the Inhabitants of Quebec gave, sold, have euthanized or lost a cat with some 491.000 occasions and a dog with 261.000 recoveries. Altogether, the habitants of Quebec were separated of 25% of all the cats or kittens which they placed during 2007 and of 23% of all the dogs and pups that they had. A bearing of animals which has what to leave perplexed! Even if with each survey, the rise of the percentage of cats per hearth is statistically not very significant, it does not remain about it less than during the last decade, the cat continued to gain in popularity in Quebec. Indeed, in 1995, one compared found at least a cat in 23,2% of the Québécois' hearths to 29% in 2008. Thus while taking account of the estimated number of Québécois hearths and owing to the fact that the owners of cats have on average 1,57 cat, we arrive at the approximate number of 1.452.000 cats in Quebec. To note that this figure does not take account of the cats wandering or living temporarily in the shops of animals or the refuges. On the other hand, the number of dogs in Quebec is much less important, those being present in only 23% of the hearths. By holding account that those which have dogs have on average 1,2 per hearth of them, one estimates that the approximate population of dogs would account for 880.000 for the whole of Quebec. Among many other information available, it is interesting to stress that they are the 35-44 years which lodge the most cats with 40% of the residences or houses. On the other hand, the 18-24 years and the most 65 years has less cats with only 9%. On the level of the occupation, they are the employees and of services which become purchasers generally of a cat with 32% and the pensioners who have some less with 22%. And it is in urban environment that one finds the most hearths with cats, that is to say 33% for Large Montreal and 34% for Large Quebec. Into the remainder of the province, this figure falls to 24%. With regard to the dogs, it is in the age bracket 45-54 years that one finds the most important proportion of owners of dog with 32%. In the same way, is province dissociates itself with the strongest percentage of hearths sheltering a dog, that is to say 35%. In regard to the schooling, it is noticed that it is those which finished academic works which hold some less with only 15%, compared to 29% of those which supplemented only one primary education or secondary level. On the level of the occupation, the students have less dogs with 11% and those remaining at the house have some more with 45%. The survey reveals in addition that the most frequent method to acquire a cat still remains to obtain it d' a range of its own she-cat or that d' a knowledge and this, in 37% of the cases. In second position, one finds the purchase in animalery with 15%, followed by a protective company of animals (SPA, SPCA) to 12% and classifieds in the newspapers, on the babillards or Internet with the same percentage. Only 3% come stockbreeders. In the dogs, the portrait differs slightly since one notes that the Inhabitants of Quebec get to their dog mainly stockbreeders and this, in 27% of the cases. In second position, with 21%, they will choose a pup coming from a range of their own bitch or that from a knowledge. Thereafter, 11% will choose the classifieds in the newspapers, on the babillards or Internet. If 6% chose a protective Company of animals (SPA, SPCA), n the other hand 5% bought in a shop d' animals or in a company acting as municipal fourrière. This report/ratio gives a report on the results of a survey carried out by Leger Marketing on behalf of the AMVQ (Association of veterinary medicine of Quebec) in collaboration with CDMV Inc. and Hill' S Fart nutrition. As a whole, 1.001 people were questioned between the 18 and on January 23, 2008. Using the data of Canada Statistics, the results were balanced according to the age, the sex, the area and the native tongue so that the sample is representative of the Québécois population. The margin of error for 1.001 guarantors is of ± 3,1%,19 time on 20. “the extrapolations presented in this report/ratio were carried out starting from the number of hearths in Quebec reported by Statistique Canada according to the census of 2006 (3 189.345 hearths). The AMVQ (Academy of veterinary medicine of Quebec Inc.) is an association with nonlucrative goal which has existed for 58 years and which gathers more than 700 veterinary doctors Québécois practitioner in the field of the pets in Quebec. Stop! You hurt me! Extract of " Domestic violence, 60 questions, 59 answers" Author: Daniel WELZER-LANG
• Violences against the animals and/or the objects: In more to be unjustified violences in themselves, the attacks with the pets or the objects are often required to make fear with beings or objects which have an emotional value for the other. Those will be broken, destroyed or removed (for example a dog or a cat), but they can also be cruelly assassinated. Sometimes, breaking objects relates to the doors, the tables, the chairs… The emotional value is not inevitably considerable but these objects belong to the universe familiar of the victim. This one is then insecured to see modifying its universe in a brutal way. Certain people can attend the destruction of a door with kicks like a symbolic system of their own destruction.

"I've repeatedly voted to increase penalties for animal cruelty and violence and, importantly, to require psychological counseling for those who engage in this behavior as part of the punishment. In addition to being unacceptable in its own stead, violence towards animals is linked with violent behavior in general, especially domestic violence, and we need to acknowledge this connection and work to treat it. Strong penalties are important and I support them, but we know that incarceration alone can't solve all our problems. As president, I'd continue to make sure that we treat animal cruelty like the serious crime it is and address its connection to broader patterns of violence."
MR. BARACK OBAMA, PRESIDENT, USA

Violence against women . . . enough!
In 2008, thousands of Québec women suffer violence every day. Here, and across the planet, violence and the fear it breeds are women's daily lot. Women and girls are harassed, assaulted, beaten and even killed. These acts occur in lanes, in women's own homes, behind closed doors, within a seemingly happy family, over cradles, on the job, etc. The attacker is often someone close to the woman: a father, grandfather, spouse, customer or boss. The threat of violence, harassment and sexual assault hovers over all women simply because we are women. Violence erupts in the context of relationships that unfortunately are still unequal; it is committed by persons in positions of power or who assume authority. Violence can be insidious or explicitly brutal; whatever its form, it always causes harm.
Violence against women is an everyday occurrence. This year, women's transition house received 87 000 requests for assistance and have received more than 8 000 women and 5 000 children; nearly 8,000 demands were received by rape crisis centers (Centres d'aide et de lutte contre les agressions à caractère sexuel (CALACS); over 16,000 women knocked on the door of a women's centre as a result of violence; 21,000 women in distress or loved ones seeking help for them phoned the S.O.S. Violence conjugale help line. And this does not include all the women who remained silent about the violence they suffered.
What must be done? We know that silence kills and slogans alone cannot protect or restore someone's life. More needs to be done; we must move from awareness to action. We firmly believe that it is possible to end violence against women; and we defend every person's right to integrity and dignity. We believe that a world without violence is possible.
We call on all candidates in the current election campaign to commit to increased efforts to bring an end to violence against women. The government of Québec can and must take action! Resources are insufficient and not adapted to properly respond to all women's calls for help, particularly Aboriginal women and women with a disability. We also deplore the lack of resources in the area of sexual assault. We demand funding for prevention and assistance resources. Too many women victims of violence are denied the help they need! We demand the immediate commencement of a vast public education campaign extending over 10 years that addresses the causes, means and solutions to put a stop to all forms of violence against women.
We also call on our fellow citizens to take a stand, refuse to accept violence, and share with us the responsibility of remaining vigilant. The groups that work specifically with women victims of violence will not succeed alone. Together, women and men, let's take action and break the wall of silence!
By signing this declaration, we are committing to action. Join us! From November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 6, National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, wear a white ribbon as a symbol of our solidarity.

The cycle of violence:
1. TENSION
The agressor shows signs of anger, threatens the other persons with words or corporal behavior, even uses silence as a threat.
The victim is nervous, anxious, tries to soften the environment, is cautious about her actions and words.
2. AGRESSION
The attaker is violent with the abused person, both verbally, psychologically, sexually and/or economically.
The victim feels humiliated, sad, and feels that the situation is not fair.
3. JUSTIFICATION
The agressor find excuses to explain his/her behavior.
The victim tries to understand, has doubt about her own perceptions, feels responsible for the violence.
4. RECONCILIATION
The abusive spouse ask for forgiveness, offers a gift, talks about therapy or suicide.
The victim will give another chance, offers her help, congratulates the efforts, modify her own attitude to support the abusor.
And then..., the cycle will start all over again...

Psychological and emotional violence: Owing to the fact that psychological violence is more difficult to seize in quantitative studies, a complete table of the most underground levels of the most insidious violence and escapes any quantification. The victims report that constant psychological violence, namely to live in terror and to undergo emotional tortures, is often more unbearable than physical brutalities, and creates a state of mental tension. The same applies to Chrétiennes, the life with female which gives comfort and support for the victims.
